Installing Plugin Packs (WINDOWS XP ONLY)

PoorBest
  1. Dowload the plugin pack file from the Downloads page. Usually you can just click on the link and the browser will prompt you where to save it.
  2. Run the file, usually by double-clicking on it from the location you saved it to. Some browsers give you the option to run the file after downloading.
  3. Leave this running, and set it aside.
  4. Open Windows Explorer (as in My Computer, not Internet Explorer).

  5. Navigate to your WoW directory, and the addons directory. By default, on a computer with Windows XP, this folder is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\.

  6. IMPORTANT: If you have installed plugins before, you must remove old versions. Delete any folders in this directory that DO NOT start with Blizzard_. To do this in an automated way, navigate to your AddOns directory, and run Clean.cmd by double-clicking it. If you haven't installed plugins before, skip to the next step.

  7. Point the self-extractor (the plugin pack you downloaded and ran) to WoW's addons directory, using the Browse button. By default, on a computer with Windows XP, this folder is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\. If you have some non-standard configuration (e.g. multiple hard drives, installed WoW somewhere else), it's on you to find it.

  8. Click Install.
  9. Switch back to Windows Explorer and verify that there are a bunch of new folders in WoW's addons directory. You may need to Refresh the display, available from the View menu.

  10. Start WoW, and on the character selection screen, click the AddOns button.

  11. Set it so that it WILL use out-of-date addons. (It's not unusual for some to be out-of-date, and function perfectly fine.)
  12. Log in and play with your new toys!
